A Survey on the Current Usage of Autogeneous Tooth-derived Bone Alternative Material in Local Dental Clinics

|
The purpose of this survey research was to investigate the current status of using autogenous tooth-derived bone grafting material (AutoTB) in dental clinics near seoul area. We selected 100 dental clinics in the metropolitan areas of Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi-do, visited and surveyed about the current usage of AutoTB. Among the collected, only the reliable questionnaires were analyzed with SPSS 22.0. The hospitals that use the AutoTB were only 23.9%(21 out of 81), and the usage of the AutoTB were mainly in the hospital setting 85.7%(18 out of 21). The main department on the usage of AutoTB in the hospital were ‘oral and maxillofacial surgery (52.4%)’ and ‘Periodontics (33.3%)’. AutoTB was used mainly for dental implant and sinus lifting surgery. It was applied with other grafting materials containing autogenous bone, allogenic/synthetic bone substitutes, or membrane. The most reasons of not using AutoTB were lack of motivation and inconvient process. 73.1% of the hospitals answered they will not use AutoTB in the future. In order to increase the use of autogenous-tooth bone grafting material in dental hospitals and clinics need to improve treatment efficient and simplify the treatment protocol.
